Edward Benton McGahan

Portsmouth-Edward Benton McGahan, 70, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at SOMC ER in Portsmouth. Edward was born October 29, 1947 in Wheelersburg to the late Leondias Kermit and Ebbie Francis Wesley McGahan. Edward was employed in maintenance at Dayton Gary Iron; he was of the Christian faith and he was a U.S. Marine serving during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Sue Smith McGahan whom he married November 4, 1970 at South Shore, KY. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Jack, Hoy and Ken and three sisters, Anna McGahan, Shirley Guiterrez and Alfreda Jean Bright. Edward is survived by a son, Edward Benton (Charity) McGahan, II; four daughters, Betty McGahan, Sara Lynn McGahan, Brenda Jay Robinson and Edwin Beverly McGahan; two brothers, “Ike” Dwight Glen McGahan and Allen McGahan; a sister, Suzie Sweeney; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Ronnie Blevins officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens where military rites will be conducted by American Legion James Dickey Post #23. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, June 29, 2018 and one hour before the service on Saturday.
